N.O. Pics

when i first went down to N.O. i was just shooting this and that without much of a focus. the second time i went down i became very interested in how public infrastructure in the upper and lower 9th wards was pretty much inexistent. in particular schools. i’ve been interested photographically for a long time how we (as a society) don’t take care of the people who are totally dependent on us (i.e. children and the elderly). so i began photographing schools.

what i particularly liked was many of the buildings had chairs strewn about that took the place of people. in many instances the chairs seemed to be acting out certain human emotions. also, as one person mentioned to me, they function very well to show abandonment. which works well for what i was trying to do as well as following in a direction which much of my work takes.

and for anyone who was planning to comment on this; yes i know these scans are horrendous.
